Blood Flow Restriction
What is Blood Flow Restriction therapy?
Blood Flow Restriction therapy is a rehabilitation tool that combines the use of a tourniquet and Doppler system placed on the arm or thigh that restricts blood flow to the spot where injury and/or surgery took place. By restricting blood flow, you can reduce the amount of resistance (10-20% of 1 repetition max) needed to achieve the same strengthening and hypertrophy effects as using 70-80% of a maximal load.
What are the benefits of Blood Flow Restriction therapy?
Through Blood Flow Restriction therapy, patients no longer need to wait for the affected join or limb to heal before it can physically handle the level of resistance typically needed to build strength. Thus, healing and recovery is expedited.
